The Scope of the Problem

Everybody thinks that it only happens to someone else, until it happens to them.

In a study released by Javelin Strategy & Research, found that over $16 Billion was stolen from over 15.4 billion Americans in 2016.  With nearly $110 billion stolen since the beginning of this decade the problem is not going away.  

With the advent of the chip credit card, criminals moved on to the path of least resistance which was opening new accounts in the victim's name and other information they have stolen.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) maintains the Consumer Sentinel Network.  They use this system to monitor and track complaints that are filed at either the local, state or federal level.
